With 968 sq km of territorial expansion from Churia hills to the inclination at Bhabar, Bardiya National Park, which was announced a National Park in the year 1988, easily becomes the largest National Park in Tarai. Enclosed with Churia Hills to the North and Geruwa River to the west, Bardiya National Park also comprises the territory of Babai River Valley and serves as habitat to vast wildlife including 30 species of mammals, Ghariyal crocodiles and dolphins.
Majority of the park is comprised of deep Sal forest where we can feel the tension of ferocious beasts like bear, rare one-horned rhinoceros and wild elephants looming unleashed while langur, rhesus monkeys, civets, hyenas, wild dogs, sloth bears, otters, blue bulls, deer and wild boars are commonly spotted creatures. In fact, Bardia National Park abodes one of the last known herds of wild elephants in South Asia.
Bird watching is yet another pleasant activity to be engaged in the park as it holds more than 250 species of birds including endangered Bengal florican, Sarus crane and kingfishers making us wonder whether heaven could be any better.
