Mustang Exploration is a rendezvous with the moonscapes of hidden valleys located in the rain shadow of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountains that holds the time-tethered Buddhist kingdom of Lomanthang. Being in the rain shadow allows minimal rainfall in Mustang region which makes Mustang Exploration possible throughout the year including the monsoon season.
Existing above Kaligandaki River, Mustang Trekking is a journey through the arid moonscape of barren crests, windswept cliffs, boulder valleys, deep gorges and sporadic moraine terraces to the millenary monastery, the town ramparts of the ancient Lomanthang City including its four storey exquisite palace. Engrossing views of mountains like Nilgiri, Annapurna and Dhawalagiri will make the expedition Mustang worth taking.
The physical travel through the world’s deepest gorge in Kali Gandaki to Lomanthang Valley-one of the highest regions of the world can analogically be associated with the astral travel of the wandering soul through the abyss to the heaven. The reason will be self- explanatory once you get through the surreal realms of Mustang that clouds you in their veils of more than 35 towering mountains over 6000m height.
Mustang had long been restricted area for trekkers that avoided itself from the outer world and its influences which aided them in retaining their Ancient culture and ways of life where sky burial is in practice. Special permit from Nepal Government is still needed for the visit into this trans- Himalayan Kingdom.
